A Belém acertou: trata-se de um molde para fazer ovos-moles de Aveiro! Já gora, aqui fica a receita:

* 30 gemas de ovos

* 500g de açúcar

* 2,5dl de água

Ferver o açúcar com a água durante cerca de 3 minutos, deixar arrefecer um pouco e adicionar as gemas batidas. Levar novamente ao lume e mexer sempre até engrossar. Depois basta colocar os moldes de hóstia, que se compram feitos, sobre o molde de metal, rechear com os ovos-moles e fechar para colar as duas metades.

Parece fácil, não é? O pior é que é dificil convencer os pasteleiros a vender os moldes de hóstia e o molde metálico muito menos!

Belém got it right, it is an "ovos-moles" mould, a traditional Portuguese desert! Here is the recipe:

* 30 egg yolks

* 500g of sugar

* 2,5dl of water

Make a thin syrup by boiling the sugar and water for about 3 minutes. Allow it to cool slightly. Beat the egg yolks. Slowly add the syrup while continuing to beat the yolks. Return the mixture to the sauce pan and stir constantly until the mixture is thickened. Don't bother trying to make the outside shell. It's like holly bread, and pretty much impossible to make at home.

The Uros live are the craftiest of all people. They live on islands in Lake Titicaca and use the totora plant to make boats, houses, and the islands themselves!

A carteira da minha zona sabe onde eu trabalho. Quando a correspondência não cabe na caixa do correio, recebo lá surpresas. Foi o que aconteceu hoje: fui surpreendida por uma alfineteira, paninhos e botões transatlânticos, enviados pela muito gentil Beth. Está mais que visto que adorei!

Today I had a surprise: I received from lovely Beth a pincushion, fabric, and buttons all the way from the other side of the Atlantic! These are the most perfect gifts for me!

A pedido da Isabel, aqui vai:
1- Clicar na tab "Editar Html".
2- Ir ao YouTube, seleccionar o video pretendido e procurar a caixa "Embed" (junto ao video, do lado direito). Copiar o código HTML para 1 fará com que o video fique disponível no blog, bastando clicar no play para visualizá-lo.
3- É possivel modificar o tamanho do video, editando os campos width="425" e height="350" tanto no início como no fim do código. Para manter as proporções adequadas, multiplicar a width por 0,8235 para obter a height correspondente.

E agora pergunto eu: como é que se formata o espaço entre as linhas? Isto está a parecer-me que tem vida própria! *update* Já descobri! Apaguei uns < /p> no código e resultou.

1- You'll need to edit the HTML of your blog entry by clicking the "Edit HTML" tab.
2- Next, go to the video that you want in YouTube, and look for the 'Embed' box in the "About This Video" section. Copying the HTML code that's there into your website will create an embedded player; the video will play within your site when the user clicks on the 'Play' button.
3- You can resize the player by editing the object width="425" and height="350" fields at both the beginning and end of the embedded player code. Make sure that the sizes you choose have the same ratio as the default numbers, so that the video doesn't get stretched—just multiply the width by 0.8235 to get the height.

O que faz uma pessoa sozinha em casa num feriado chuvoso? Limpezas, arrumações ou, eventualmente, o IRS? Não... eu faço miniaturas! A base da alfineteira é uma casca de pistácio.
What does someone home alone during a rainy bank holiday? Cleans up the house or fills the tax declaration? Not me... I make miniatures! The pincushion is in a pistachio shell.
Depois aproveita-se a ausência do alérgico e prepara-se umas batatinhas salteadas com miolo de camarão. O gato na imagem é uma alucinação. Os meus gatos não andam em cima das mesas!
Then, as the allergic one is not at home, one prepares a yummy meal with stir-fried shrimps and potatoes. The cat in the picture is really an hallucination. My cats do not climb up the tables!

Agora que já me entendi com a máquina de costura, tenho andado a experimentar projectos simples que feitos à mão demorariam demasiado tempo.
Now that I came to an understanding with the sewing machine, I've been trying some simple projects.

A bem da verdade, convém assumir que a minha incompatibilidade com a pobre máquina se deveu ao facto de... eu não saber enfiar a agulha convenientemente! Mea culpa, mea culpa! I have to say that I was having so much trouble with the poor machine because... I couldn't thread it! Mea culpa!
Agora vou estagiar a este nivel mais uns tempos e depois conto avançar para o patchwork, segundo a receita da Alexandra, claro! I'll do a few more of this simple projects for a while, and then I'll maybe try some patchwork, according to Alexandra's tutorial of course!

historic day

Hoje, pela primeira vez, conduzi sozinha um automóvel! Isto nada teria de extraordinário, não fosse eu ter tirado a carta há 12 anos atrás. No fim de percorrido 1 km, a distância total do meu arrojo, tremia por todo o lado. Mas cheguei ao destino.

Today, for the first time, I drove a car all by myself. This doesn't sound like much, but I have my driving licence since 1996! After 1 km I was really shaking, but I got where I wanted.

Como se já não fosse suficientemente dificil tentar criar maracujazeiros em vaso, fui hoje dar com esta criatura a devorar as poucas folhas que sobreviveram ao Inverno.

Nenhum animal foi maltratado no decorrer da sessão fotográfica. O caracol vive agora no jardim público nas frentes do apartamento.

No animal was injured during this foto session. The snail now lives in the public garden in front of my appartment.

Esta foi a pimeira e, arrisco-me a dizer, a última vez que fiquei contente que os meus gatos estivessem com pulgas. Em Novembro tive acesso a um microscópio electrónico de varrimento durante uma semana e foi necessário arranjar coisas para fotografar. Entre outras, esta pulguinha veio mesmo a calhar! Vista assim ao perto até a acho gira. Há que saber encontrar beleza na fauna que está ao nosso alcance, embora para alguns isso seja mais fácil ou, pelo menos, menos polémico!

This was the first and, I dare say, the last time I was happy that my cats had fleas. Last November I had access to a scanning electron microscope for a week and I had to get stuff to take some pictures of. This cute flea was one of those. One has to find beauty in the surrounding fauna, even though for some of us it is an easier thing to do!

Já aqui falei da organização Kiva. Neste site podemos emprestar dinheiro a uma pessoa à nossa escolha para ajudar a financiar um pequeno negócio. Quando o negócio começa a dar lucro, o dinheiro é-nos restituído para a nossa conta paypal e podemos retirá-lo ou emprestá-lo novamente. Com o dinheiro que recebi da Lilia estou a ajudar a financiar a Cipriana, que precisa de comprar materiais para fazer bolsas em couro para garrafas termos: couro, fio, tintas, agulhas, cola... Confesso que a escolha foi um bocadinho tendenciosa!
